Our process

How does IT staffing with Appsierra actually work?

Four steps, with the technical evaluation done before a CV ever reaches you.

01

Define the role and the bar

Not a job description dump. We agree the actual skills, the seniority level, the overlap hours you need and the evaluation criteria a candidate has to clear — so shortlisting is measured against something rather than argued about later.

02

Screen and technically evaluate

Structured screening, then a live technical evaluation and a work-sample exercise relevant to your stack, run by an engineer who does that work. Communication and English fluency are assessed deliberately, because remote delivery fails on that as often as on skill.

03

You interview and decide

You get a shortlist with evaluation notes and you run the final interview. Nobody is placed on your team without your sign-off, and rejecting a shortlist is a normal outcome rather than a negotiation.

04

Onboard, ramp and review

Week one is access, context and a first small deliverable. From week two the engineer works your process on your board, with a named Appsierra contact who reviews performance with you rather than disappearing after the placement.

When is IT staffing better than hiring directly?

Permanent hiring is the right answer for the core of your team, and we will say so when it is. Staffing wins in a narrower and very common set of situations: the date is fixed and recruitment cannot move fast enough, the skill is needed for a phase rather than forever, the local market for that skill is thin, or the roadmap is uncertain enough that you need a clean way to scale back down. Those are engagement questions, not talent questions — which is why we start with the model rather than with CVs. If you already know you want an India-based team under your own direction, our IT staff augmentation from India page covers that engagement in detail.

Time-to-productivity beats headcount

A direct hire in a competitive market commonly takes two to four months from approved requisition to first commit. When a delivery date is already fixed, that gap is the problem — not the budget for the role.

The skill is needed for a phase

Migrations, integrations, audits and launch pushes need depth for a period, not forever. Hiring permanently for a temporary peak creates a harder problem the moment the peak passes.

The local market is thin

Some skills are genuinely scarce where your office is. Widening the search to a delivery centre with a deep engineering pool is often the difference between filling the role and re-posting it.

You need to scale down cleanly

Contract engagements ramp down on notice. That is materially different from a permanent hire, and it is the reason finance teams often prefer augmentation for uncertain roadmaps.

Coverage

What roles do our IT staffing services cover?

Engineering roles we deliver in ourselves — so the people evaluating candidates have done the job.

QA and test automation engineers

Manual, automation and performance testers, including SDETs who build frameworks rather than only run them. Where you want a testing-specific engagement, our QA staffing route covers it directly.

DevOps, cloud and platform engineers

CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, Kubernetes, observability and cloud cost work — the roles that are hardest to hire permanently because the market for them moves fastest.

Data and AI engineers

Pipeline, warehouse and analytics engineers, plus ML and LLM application engineers for teams building AI features who need people who have shipped them before rather than only read about them.

Dedicated development pods

A cross-functional team with its own lead, owning a workstream end to end. This is the dedicated development team model, and it is a different contract from placing individuals.

Contract and temporary staffing

Short-term and seasonal cover for backfill, parental leave, audit periods and delivery surges, described in detail on our temporary and contract staffing page.

How is a managed pod different from placing contractors?

This is the decision that most often gets made by accident, and it determines whether the engagement works. Placing individual contractors adds capacity to a team you already run — it assumes you have the management bandwidth to direct them. A managed pod adds capacity and the leadership to run it, against outcomes agreed with you. Choosing individuals when nobody has time to direct them is the most reliable way to end up paying for engineers who are blocked, and it is a failure mode we would rather flag before the contract than after it. Where the workstream is quality engineering specifically, the same logic applies through our quality assurance services.

Individual contractors — you manage

You set the work, run the standups and own the outcome. Appsierra sources, employs and administers the engineer. This suits teams with strong existing leadership who are simply short of hands.

Managed pod — we manage

A pod comes with its own senior lead who runs delivery against agreed outcomes and reports to you. This suits teams without spare engineering management, or a workstream you want owned rather than staffed.

How to choose between them

If you can name the person who will run the work day to day and they have capacity, take individuals. If that person does not exist, staffing individuals usually just moves the bottleneck to your calendar.

Tell us the role, not just the headcount

Give us the skills, the seniority and the overlap hours you need, and we will come back with an evaluated shortlist and an honest view of how long that specific role takes to fill.

How we work

How Appsierra engagements are run

Senior accountability, agreed outcomes, and terms designed for changing demand.

Senior-led pods

A named senior engineer owns the outcome, so you talk to the people doing the work rather than to an account manager relaying it.

Productive in about 7 days

Onboarding, access and scope land in week one. Delivery starts from week two, rather than after a month of mobilisation.

AI-accelerated, expert-supervised

AI speeds up routine engineering work; senior engineers review what it produces before anything ships into your codebase.

Outcome-aligned scope

We agree measurable targets up front — deliverables, coverage, ramp milestones — instead of selling open-ended hours.

Security and IP first

ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certified and CMMI Level 3 aligned, NDA-first, with IP assignment and confidentiality terms agreed before work starts.

Flexible engagement

Scale the team up for a delivery push and down afterwards on agreed notice. No long lock-in on a model built for changing demand.

IT staffing FAQs

What are IT staffing services?

IT staffing services supply technology professionals — engineers, QA specialists, DevOps and data people — to work inside a client's team without the client hiring them permanently. The staffing provider handles sourcing, technical evaluation, employment, payroll and compliance; the client directs the work. Engagements are usually structured as contract, contract-to-hire or a dedicated pod, and are chosen when a role is needed faster than permanent recruitment can deliver, for a defined period, or in a skill the local hiring market cannot supply.

How does Appsierra vet engineers before they reach us?

Screening runs in stages. A recruiter checks background, stack depth and availability; an Appsierra engineer then runs a live technical evaluation and a work-sample exercise relevant to your actual stack rather than a generic quiz. Communication and English fluency are assessed explicitly, because distributed delivery fails on that as often as on technical skill. You receive a shortlist with the evaluation notes, run your own final interview, and no engineer joins your team without your approval.

Where are your engineers based, and what time-zone overlap do we get?

Engineers are recruited and employed in India, where our delivery organisation is based, with offices in Noida. Contracting runs through our United States entity in Delaware or our United Kingdom entity in London depending on where you are. We do not operate local branch offices in every city we serve, and we will not claim otherwise. Overlap hours are agreed in the contract: teams working with US clients commonly cover the US morning, and UK and European overlap is straightforward across most of the working day.

What is the difference between staff augmentation and a managed pod?

With staff augmentation you get individual engineers who join your team and take direction from your leadership — you own planning, prioritisation and the outcome. With a managed pod you get a team plus its own senior lead, who runs delivery against outcomes agreed with you and is accountable for them. The practical test is whether you have an engineering manager with the capacity to direct extra people. If you do, augmentation is cheaper and simpler; if you do not, adding individuals usually just moves the bottleneck onto your own calendar.

How quickly can an engineer join our team?

For common stacks a shortlist typically reaches you within days rather than weeks, because candidates come from a pre-evaluated pool instead of a cold search. After your interview and sign-off, onboarding takes about a week — access, environment, context and a first small deliverable — with structured contribution from week two. Scarce or highly specific skill combinations take longer to source, and we will say so up front rather than send a weaker shortlist to hit a date.

Who employs the engineer, and how do IP and confidentiality work?

The engineer is employed by Appsierra in India, so payroll, statutory benefits, local employment compliance and equipment sit with us rather than with you. Your contract is with our United States or United Kingdom entity depending on your location, which keeps invoicing, jurisdiction and dispute terms local to you. Confidentiality and intellectual-property assignment are agreed before work starts, so anything created during the engagement belongs to you. Access follows least privilege, and we will work inside your own security tooling, VDI or device policy where you have one.

What happens if someone is not the right fit?

Replacement and ramp-down terms are agreed in the contract before anyone starts, and we strongly recommend settling them at that point rather than negotiating in the middle of a problem. In practice most fit issues surface in the first few weeks, and are handled by replacing the engineer and re-running onboarding with the context already documented so the second ramp is faster than the first. Ramp-down works on agreed notice, which is one of the main reasons teams use contract engagements for uncertain roadmaps instead of permanent hiring.
